As part of our massive Centenary Celebrations, the Leeming Spartan Cricket Club is hosting a very special round of golf at the prestigious Melville Glades Golf Course on Sunday 14th October 2018!
If you fancy a game of golf at a private course (which is usually not open to the public) then this day is for you! And, all the while you’ll be helping us raise money to pay for our Centenary Ball on November 17th!
Our friendly neighbours at the Melville Glades Golf Club (just next door to us on Beasley Road) have kindly offered us this opportunity as a way of sponsoring the ball!
As part of the event’s preparations, the Club requires a minimum number of 72 golfers on the day. As such we are asking everyone to please place their order as soon as possible via our website. Bank details below.
Limited spots are available and this is already shaping to be a popular event so pay now to avoid missing out! To secure your ticket, simply click here to purchase one online, or get in touch as soon as possible when we’re open to pay at the bar.
We may look at increasing tickets depending on numbers, however this will change the format of the day as Melville will have to close the course for our private use as opposed to hosting us within the regular Sunday competition.
This is a full eighteen holes of golf, with a sausage sizzle and free beer to follow on a private golf course – all for just $60.00! Golfers will know the usual cost of a private membership, so this really is a fantastic opportunity to get involved with the popular game!
So, be sure to get your tickets as soon as possible via our website, and have a fantastic day on the green! Read on below for full FAQs!
Cost: Just $60.00 and includes 18 holes of golf, sausage sizzle afterwards and one (1) free standard beer or wine plus prizes.

• Everyone Welcome – Not Just Spartans •
Frequently Asked Questions:
Q – Do I have to be a Spartan member to play?
A – Everyone is welcome to play so feel free to invite family and friends. Please note: only people playing golf will be allowed onto the course, however their bar will be open (no round spectators).
Q – Where is the MGGC?
A – That’s an easy one! It’s located opposite John Connell Reserve (our home ground), and the main entry is from Beasley Road, just off Karel Avenue in Leeming. A map is visible below.
Q – I’m the worst golfer of all time, can I still play?
A – YES! The format will be four ball Ambrose, a fun team event which means even if you’re a complete hacker (much like our Vice President Glenn Hack!), you can still take part and have fun without looking (too much) like a goose.
There may even be a NAGA award (if you don’t know what this means you’re probably in the running to win it!).
Q – Do I have to bring my own clubs and/or push buggy?
A – It’s best if you do. Melville is not a public course and only have a small number of club sets and push buggies they can hire out. If you don’t have your own clubs and a buggy we suggest you beg, borrow or steal a set off friends or family!
Q – Can I hire a motorised cart?
A – There are only 5 carts available for hire ($50/cart – seating 2). We’d like to hold these for people who can’t walk the course for medical reasons (being too fat, lazy, unfit or sore from bowling 4 overs the day before doesn’t count. It’s good exercise anyway!)
Q – Can I nominate to play with my mates?
A – YES. If you have a group (up to 4 people) let us know their names and we’ll try our very best to put you together. Purchasing tickets in a batch is a great way to secure your group!
Q – Can other Clubs, members and/or non-Spartans take part?
A – THAT’S A DEFINITIVE YES! Be sure to get your tickets online and you’re in. It’s as easy as that.
Q – It’s a long way off – can I pay later/on the day?
A – You are only registered and guaranteed a spot when you pay in full. With limited numbers and a lot of interest we expect this to sell out fast and we need firm commitments now (in the form of money paid) for catering and booking purposes.
Q – If I pay now and find out I can’t attend can I get my money back?
A – Yes. We expect there to be lots of interest in this with people on the waiting list who will buy your ticket from you.
Q – Is there a dress code?
A – Yes. Being a private course there is a strict dress code for men and women. For men, a tucked in collared shirt with belt is a must. Please note that under no circumstances is denim permitted. Similarly, no hats are allowed inside the clubhouse.
For the ladies, the dress code is similar but a bit more lenient on the tucking in. The complete dress code and other rules and regulations can be found on the Melville Glades website, here.
Q – Do I need golf shoes?
A – No, but you will need to wear soft soled shoes, no metal spikes.
Q – Can I do ‘Happy Gilmores’?
A – THAT IS A RESOUNDING NO! As this is a private course and the MGGC are generously sponsoring the Leeming Spartan Cricket Club, we need to follow their rules and look after their course at all times.
Q – Will I get a handicap for the day?
A – Yes. If you don’t hold an official handicap from Golf Australia we’ll allocate you one based on our own ‘very scientific’ method. Your group’s handicap will be calculated using the 4 individual handicaps you’re allocated.
Q – Has MGGC got food and drink?
A – YES! The Melville Glades Golf Club has a fully stocked bar with tap beer, an excellent wine selection and a great menu if you’d like to kick on for a more substantial dinner.
Q – Sign me up, how do I buy tickets?
A – The easiest way to do this is via the online portal or with a bank transfer (details below) but if you’re a cash person you’ll need to check when the Spartan clubhouse is open and pay that way – remembering it is a first come first served basis.
