Cricket Couldn’t Come Sooner For Oliver
Written By WACA Staff Writers
Meet eight-year-old Oliver. He’s the first Woolworths Cricket Blaster to sign up for the upcoming summer of cricket in Western Australia.
The enthusiastic Master Blaster who has been playing cricket at Leeming Junior CC for two seasons now, instantly fell in love with the sport and is on the countdown to club cricket starting up again.
Oliver loves everything about cricket, his highlight from last season was when he took his first wicket.
“I love cricket so much because I get to move my muscles and stay healthy and I love team sports because you can learn from your mates,” he said.
“It’s really cool when you get a wicket and the middle stump goes flying! I’ve done that once before and it was amazing.
“I’m an allrounder at the moment and I want to play for Australia one day.”
Oliver’s mum Hannah said cricket has helped him in so many ways on and off the field.
“Oliver is much more relaxed, he has learnt discipline by having to commit to training and games each week and he is more confident in himself,” she said.
“As parents, my husband and I love the way cricket is giving Oliver good role models. His coaches are teaching him not just how to play the game, but how to be a good sport and how to be self-disciplined.
“It was really easy to register at our local club. The PlayCricket website is very easy to use, and registration was quick.
“I would highly recommend the Blasters program for any girls or boys who are showing an interest in the sport, it’s a great way to build skills and make new friends.”
