It’s Great To Be Back!

The ushering in of a new year means that the second half of our season is now in effect, and with all seven sides back on the park this weekend, it is more important than ever to get involved at the Club!

While three sides returned to action last weekend (with great wins to the First and Third Grades to boot), this Saturday sees all teams battling it out in the name of the Spartans!

Our Fixtures Page has been updated to reflect all upcoming matches, so be sure to read all the upcoming match details by clicking here.

It is important to note that all grades are playing in one day 40-over clashes. Please read on below to learn about the upcoming clashes for our sides!

99 Years Strong!

This year the Club turns 99, a truly remarkable achievement that is practically unparalleled amongst all other sporting clubs in Western Australia.

We have a number of things planned in the coming weeks and months to celebrate the centenary-minus-one milestone, so be sure to stay tuned for all the news as it comes to hand on the Spartan website.

Match Previews:

Firsts:

Our First Grade take on the reigning Premiers Cockburn at their home ground of Davilak in what could be the game of the season.

Unfortunately this is no longer a stand alone fixture, but it always proves to be an exciting clash between two of the older clubs in the competition.

Both sides have great respect for one another and get along very well off the field, but be sure to know there won’t be any affability during the match!

Without wanting to jinx our guys, we took home last year’s clash during what was a hugely memorable day at John Connell. Being the only match played on the day, we combined the event with our Sponsors and Life Members Day, meaning a massive crowd of over one hundred turned out to watch the event.

Now on enemy turf, it will be exciting to see whether Milts’ men can make it two on the trot!

Thirds:

Our twos play off at the home of cricket against Jandakot Park this Saturday, and will be wanting to make up for a big defeat earlier in the season.

With a strong side available, they can certainly achieve just that, and it will be very interesting to see whether they can take down a side sitting one win out of the four.

The twos have experienced somewhat of a resurgence in recent weeks. Despite four straight losses to begin the season, they have won their last three games, including knocking off second-on-the-ladder East Fremantle in the two day clash.

Still, it counts for little this weekend, but rest assured it will be a hugely entertaining encounter, and a victory will see them move to equal fifth on the table!

Sixths:

The Sixth Grade returns to action this weekend after the Christmas break, playing Cockburn at home at Trevor Gribble Reserve.

An outright loss to the Cavaliers earlier this season means they will be pursuing a victory more than ever, and, on the back of a promising performance to round out 2016, it could prove to be the match of the round.

Sevenths:

A loss last week means that our fourths will be headhunting a victory this weekend over Jandakot at Atwell Reserve.

The side has performed expertly well on occasion but are yet to put together a string of consistent performances, and will be looking to put the pillars in place to mount a push to the top of the table in the second half of the season.

One Day Sides:

Our One-Day sides also return to action for their first game of 2017 this weekend, and will undoubtedly be keen to put the wins on the board.

Our 40-over sides have had mixed years, and like sevenths are lacking consistent victories. All however are still well in the hunt for positions inside the top four, and will be looking to make amends for a poor finish to 2016.

Of note, Mick Bennett should take his 600th wicket for the Club this weekend. Benno currently sits on 599. You can read more about this incredible milestone by clicking here.

Of course, there is plenty coming up off the field in the coming weeks, so be sure to stay tuned for all the latest info, only on www.spartans.com.au!
