As we move past the half-way mark of what has been an already unforgettable year with many uncertainties, the Leeming Spartan Cricket Club is excited to announce that our WinterT20 Series is returning August 1st and everyone is welcome to play!
With the easing of COVID-19 restrictions that has significantly hampered our fundraising efforts, the successes Western Australia has had to date in combating the virus has allowed us to recommence our WinterT20 Series.
It looked early on that this may be an impossible feat but as Western Australia is now in Stage 4 of restrictions we are able to proceed as we normally would with the great fundraiser, but all the while ensuring we adhere to the social distancing measures and hygiene practices in place.
Fear not however as the Spartans reopen the doors ahead of what will be a massive 2020/21 season. The WinterT20 Series serves as the perfect way for everyone to catch up with one another at the clubhouse after what has been an unprecedented several months, and as always we will have the bar and BBQ ready and running all afternoon!
WinterT20 returns after a two-year hiatus on Saturday August 1st at John Connell Reserve with two massive matches including the later twilight game under lights!
August 1st is even more significant as it is the earmarked date for Western Australia to begin Stage 5 ease of COVID restrictions, which will completely remove social distancing rules. More information on the current easing of restrictions (per announcements from the WA Government) is available here.
That said, we will be continuing to adhere to the current practices so as to best ensure everyone in attendance remains safe and healthy. Sanitisation products will be provided throughout the day and all food and drink preparation practices will be to the highest standard. The Leeming Spartan Cricket Club is permitted to have up to 100 patrons in attendance and the sport of cricket is also listed as one of the sports permitted by current regulations. As is the case with the current West Indies and England Test Match, no saliva on the ball will be permitted.
We’ll be sure to have the bar open and BBQ running all afternoon as well meaning even if you’re not playing you are more than welcome to come down and watch.

WinterT20 Returns In 2020
Saturday August 1st – From 2PM – John Connell Reserve – Under Lights
A great day of action and everyone is invited!
Saturday August 1st sees the Spartan WinterT20 Series resume for its impressive sixth year, and once again it will be at the forefront of our fundraising efforts this season.
It is as important as ever and we couldn’t be more excited for the competition to resume, given the increased difficulties with fundraising in recent months.
As always we will have the BBQ and bar open and running all afternoon and encourage everyone to come down during the day where they can.
We will also have AFL on the TV and the clubhouse will be open. The highlight of course will be the fact that game two (from 4PM) will be played under lights at John Connell Reserve, the first twilight match since 2018 at the ground.

Match Day Specifics:
The first WinterT20 for 2020 will see two massive matches played, with the first game commencing at 2:00PM.
This will be followed by game two under lights from 4:30pm and is scheduled to be completed in two and a half hours.
Matches are priced at $20.00 for one game or $30.00 for both, and as is the case in previous years our bar and BBQ will be open all day.
Spectators are more than welcome to attend.

Staying COVID-Safe
As mentioned above the Leeming Spartan Cricket Club is making sure we remain committed to the safest practices available to help stop the spread of COVID-19.
Despite the announcement that August 1st will see Western Australia move to Stage 5 of relaxed restrictions, we are ensuring we continue to adhere to the social distancing measurers and sanitisation as recommended by the Health Department.
As such saliva on the ball will not be permitted and the change rooms will not be open. We will be keeping lines at the bar and BBQ areas socially distanced to ensure everyone remains safe. The Club has also developed a COVID Safety Plan on advice from the WA Government and this will continue to serve as the basis for our response in keeping everyone safe.
The WinterT20 competition is allowed under the current restrictions (both Phase 4 and Phase 5) and will be operated to the highest safety standard. We encourage any questions or suggestions and ask you to please Email us.
