This Sunday 4th December will see a new Leeming Spartan side take to the field for the first time.

The momentum of Veterans Cricket has taken off as another form of competition for the older members of our club and many others to continue playing the game we all love in a more relaxed and even playing field for all players to enjoy.

Leeming Spartan will field a side in the Over-45 years age group in the “Focus Cup” this season. Our boys will play 5 rounds in an 11-team competition from around the Perth Metropolitan Area plus a South-West combined side. The rounds are spread out across December 2022 and into January and February 2023, with a Grand Final scheduled between the top-2 sides on February 26th. All matches are slated for Sunday afternoons starting at 1pm.

Our squad has been organized and will be captained by Spartan Life Member Graham Pound and feature no less than 15 Spartan Life Members and 3 Spartan Team of the Century Members plus many more Spartan premierships and matches between them.

Our squad is as follows;

Graham Pound (c), Phil Barker, Nigel Coppin, Alan Taylor, Steven Greaves, Peter Agostino, Matt Smith, Craig Forsyth, Darren Rose, Brad Thompson, Nick Manifis, Mark Atkinson, Jason Hamling, Gary Boyes, Peter Waite, Shayne Hersey, Shawn Southam, Greg Dudley, Jason Sweetman, David Abercrombie, Graeme Tysoe, Graeme Bond, Mark Elvidge, Pete Brown, Kevin Poller, Geoff Burgess, Ron McDonald, Brad Mant, Jay O’Neill, Andrew Gibbs, Peter Coombs, Mick Bennett, Dale Putland, Ben Rushton, Graham Braid and Shahyaz Mubarakai.

Leeming’s first game is this Sunday 4th December at Fletcher Park, Carlisle. This is the home ground of Perth Cricket Club, who are a WA Premier Cricket Club, so the ground and facilities will be top notch. This will be Spartans “Home Ground” for the competition.

We welcome and encourage all Spartans to get out to Fletcher Park on Sunday to cheer on and support the boys in this historic fixture as they continue to be part of the Spartan club and family.
