The Leeming Spartan Cricket Club is delighted to formally announce the appointment of our head coach this season, with newcomer to the SMCA, Nick Manifis taking on the role!

Nick is a sensational bloke with an enormous amount of experience and dedication in coaching and cricket, and currently serves on the Committee of the Perth Cricket Club (where one of our Gold Sponsors in John Lindsay from Johns Building Supplies has been the President for nearly three decades).

Nick is also one of only a handful of Life Members at Perth (a club who recently turned 150 years old!), and we are extremely looking forward to the great work he’ll be doing at the Spartans in season 2017/18!

Nick will head a new panel of coaches in what is a first at the Spartans, with many of our senior players taking on coaching roles in specific areas, those of which will be announced closer to the season.

We can confirm that Marc Dodds will be providing coaching to the Club’s younger players, which will no doubt be invaluable information from a man who has previously won the medal for the competition’s leading First Grade player.

Nick meanwhile comes to us directly from Perth, and has already made himself known to players at the Spartans, having attended a number of off-season ‘catch ups’ in recent weeks.

He will become our first Club Coach since Mark Atkinson held the position in 2014, with Mark himself a former player (and current coach) at Perth.

Additionally, Peter Waite will also be returning as one of our Spartan coaches, having previously offered support to the First and Second Grade last season, in which we made it all the way to the First Grade Grand Final, a remarkable turnaround from the previous season in which we missed finals cricket altogether.

We’re greatly looking forward to the approach Nick will bring to the Leeming Spartan Cricket Club, which we believe will be in the form of a revamped yet familiar style, bring back the basics through what is a proven formula.

The Committee is also extremely confident that our members, supporters and friends will see a real difference thanks to Nick, who will certainly bring a much needed increase to the standard of our nightly training sessions.

Furthermore, Spartans will see that Nick is a dedicated clubman who will devote all of his time and effort to the Club, not just through coaching, but at all our functions and events throughout the year.

Here’s wishing Nick all the best ahead of season 2017/18, and we formally welcome him into the Spartan family!

Get to know Nick at our 2017 Crystal Finance Pre-Season training sessions, the first of which begins on August 24th at Courtside Multisports!
