A special congratulations to our Chairman Of Selectors Anthony McGhie, who last week played his 200th game for the Leeming Spartan Cricket Club!
First debuting back in 2000/2001, Sooty has become an integral member of the Club, and has recently extended his support by working as a selector since 2015.
In addition to his work as selector, he captained our 3rd Grade side in the absence of regular captain Glenn Hack due to injury. This was an extremely difficult task due to the unavailability of players in the grade, but one that Sooty completed with great success, ensuring the sustainability of the side.
He becomes the forty-fifth member to have passed the 200 game mark for the Leeming Spartan Cricket Club, joining a long list of Club legends in the process, and, you could easily suggest that he isn’t out of place.
Furthermore, he has acquired nearly 2000 runs and has taken 82 catches for Leeming Spartan – achievements which put him in the top 100 players in both categories.
It is certainly a remarkable effort to be on the leading honour board three times at a 98 year old club.
Never one to shy away from putting his hand up to help, making him a vital asset in addition to his matches played, and Sooty is fully deserving of his position on the all time games played board.
We congratulate Sooty immensely for his longtime patronage at the Club, and wish him all the best for the remainder of this season and those that follow!
Well done mate!
