The Leeming Spartan Cricket Club would like to wish all our members, friends, sponsors, and family, a very merry Christmas and happy new year!
We hope that you have a fantastic and relaxing break over the Christmas period, and look forward to seeing you back at the clubhouse in the new year.
Presents, drinks, seafood, those godawful jokes from Christmas crackers, and of course cricket, is what makes the festive season amongst the best times of the year!
Be sure to check out the rules regarding backyard cricket for Sunday, with perfect weather once again forecast, it really is the most opportune time for us Spartans to show the family how it is done – with a stubby in one hand and the bat in the other!
It gets even better on Boxing Day, with the Second Test against Pakistan from the MCG from 7:30am (AWST), and then the Big Bash sees the Hurricanes v Stars from 4:00pm!
Here’s wishing everyone a wonderful and safe Christmas break period, and we look forward to seeing you back in January 2017!
Season Resumption:
The season will resume in early January. Be sure to check our fixtures page for all the latest match day info!
Our first training takes place on Thursday, 5th January.
Our two day sides (excludes the 6th Grade) will return to play a one-day game on Saturday, 7th January.
Our one day sides and our 6th Grade will play their first game back the following week, Saturday 14th January 2017.
Note that these two weekends all feature 40-over encounters (including the second week for 1st, 3rd, and 7th Grade).
The Last Four Months:
We would also like to take this time to thank everyone for their support of the Spartans in our 98th year.
It has been a massive year behind the scenes, and the efforts of our Committee members has been second to none.
We’ve introduced a new website, added a range of sponsors, updated our clothing lines and stubby holders (including fantastic stubby holders for our Life Members), introduced membership cards and a new Social Membership platform, all before a ball had been bowled.
On the field, we have celebrated some fantastic milestones, including Manty’s 400th game and Abba’s 300th just last week, we have witnessed a great victory by our two’s, and a record partnership for all wickets and grades, to name but a few.
It has us positioned in great stead heading into our 99th year, and with preparations well and truly under way for the centenary of the Club, we look forward to furthering our progress in the months to come.
Spartan Updates:
We have a range of exiting events and news coming up in the second half of the season, so be sure to stay tuned for all the details as they come to hand.
For those chasing clothing, we will have stock ready and waiting on Thursday, 5th January, but be sure to get in quick as it is bound to sell out quickly for the fourth time this season!
Our Summer Raffle will also be taking place once again, and we’ll be asking all members to take a book of tickets to sell. The prizes are incredible this year, with plenty of merchandise, holidays, and more available to win!
We’ll also be holding a Sponsors Day, Life Members Day, and Past Players Day around February, so be sure to stay tuned.
We have two Sunday inter-Club T20 matches scheduled in the early year, including a rematch against the Melville City Hockey Club, who controversially annihilated our side earlier this year in the inaugural game.
We also have plans to resume the Mitch Gillam Cup match, although as it is early days, this is yet to be confirmed.
News regarding our Windup will be released as soon as it comes to hand, although as was the case last season, it is expected to be held in early April.
Winding Down:
Lastly, please note that communication from the website will be limited until 15th January 2017.
We’ll be updating the site sporadically whenever major news comes to hand. In order to stay up to date, we encourage you to join our mailing list to be notified of information when it is released, to save checking the website daily or missing important details.
We will however be working on completing a lot of pages on the site (such as our sponsors, many of which we’ve just updated), although this will be under the radar and will not always warrant an announcement.
Be sure to have a good look through the site in late January to see all the changes.
We hope you have a fantastic Christmas and New Year, and look forward to seeing you back at the Club on Thursday 5th January for a Player’s Tea!
