Not since the 2005/2006 season has a Spartan achieved what Dale Putland has in last Saturday’s match against CBC in the 7th Grade.

Dale has become the first batsman in over a decade to have carried his bat through a completed innings with his unbeaten 66 at the top of the order.

To qualify for this very rare achievement, a player must have batted at the opening position of one or two, and remain not out at the completion of the side’s innings.

Putland is now one of just seven Spartans from eight occurrences to achieve this feat, and with 99 years of history under our belt, it really goes to show just how rare this is.

This has been another fine season from Putland, who began 2016/17 with an unbeaten 118 batting at four.

It proved to be a fantastic game that unfortunately did not go our way, as we finished 10/150 chasing 161 for victory.

In all, Dale batted for 65.4 overs for his unbeaten 66 and entry into the list of Spartan bat carriers.

Despite the defeat, it was certainly a fine individual effort and we wish him all the best for the remainder of the season!
