On what was a fantastic night that lasted well into the hours of Saturday morning, Callum Appleby marked the end of a fine season by taking home the Knox-Peden Young Spartan Award for 2016/17 at our Windup last Friday!

The newly renamed award – it was previously known as the Jack Knox-Peden Best Club Junior Award – is a just reward for Callum, who has had a fine season on and off the field.

Our Durham import has quickly made his mark in our 98th season, with the 21 year old claiming 32 wickets for the season, including 4/24 in our Semi Final victory over CBC before backing it up the following week with 4/48 in the Grand Final.

Off the field, he has been involved in almost every function and event, donating countless hours over the last six months to readying the clubhouse for whatever was taking place.

Callum is therefore without any doubt the perfect choice to take home this hugely prestigious award – one of the Spartan’s “Big Three” individual awards, and we congratulate him on this fine achievement.

Callum, who departed Perth last night, also took home the trophy for the leading bowler in the First Grade, his 32 wickets coming from 187.2 overs with 43 maidens and an economy rate of just 2.8!

His 6/41 against Bicton Attadale was one of many fine contributions with the ball, and his 5/29 against Phoenix at home in the first game back post-Christmas has seen his name immortalised on the Spartan honour board inside our change rooms.

Congratulations mate, and all the best for your season at home, and we hope to see you back at the SpartanHQ in the not too distant future!
