General FAQs:

Q. Is it Leeming Spartan or Leeming Spartans?

It is officially Leeming Spartan (singular), as the Club is known as the Leeming Spartan Cricket Club (Inc.).

The term Leeming Spartans Cricket Club is incorrect, (with the word ‘Spartan’ pluralised) and we should never be referred to as such.

It all refers way back to our foundation in 1918, when obviously the suburb of Leeming didn’t exist. We were established in Fremantle, and known simply as the ‘Spartan Cricket Club‘.

Colloquially, you’ll hear us referred to as the Leeming Spartans, although this is unofficial and won’t be seen in formal documentation, including this website.

You will see us referred to collectively as Leeming Spartans (plural), although the correct term is simply Leeming Spartan.

To make things even more confusing, you’ll also see us referred to as Spartans, which is actually an acceptable term.

Essentially, the Club is Leeming Spartan, but our players are Leeming Spartans.

Interestingly, our website domain is www.spartans.com.au. Overall though, we are Leeming Spartan Cricket Club!

Q. Where we at?

The Leeming Spartan Cricket Club is located on the luxurious John Connell Reserve, which is off Dimond Court in Leeming, Western Australia.

Complete with spacious parking, it is a multi-million dollar facility that is disability friendly, with access ramps and more.

To get to Dimond Court, simply head up Karel Avenue, and we are the final left turn before Roe Highway. Or, the first right turn after Roe if you’re heading north.

Q. What are our colours?

The Leeming Spartan Cricket Club colours are a navy blue, a light blue and a vibrant red, which we proudly show off in our three club polos and in our logo.

Interestingly, until the 1940s, our colours mimicked those of the Sussex Cricket Club in England, which were yellow and blue.

Financial FAQs:

Q. How much is a regular playing membership?

Spartan Membership is very generously priced at just a flat fifty dollars ($50.00), and covers you and your insurance for the entire season! See below for the full goodies you receive via a Playing Membership.

This is hugely competitive playing membership pricing, with most other clubs in our association charging in excess of $350.00!

Q. How much are match fees?

Like all other clubs, Spartan Members are required to pay a small fee to ‘purchase’ their match each week, which covers all items for the Club such as cricket balls (we collectively spend over $5000.00 each season on the things!), umpires, rent, ground hire etc.

As one would expect, it all quickly adds up and as there is no such thing as a free lunch we unfortunately wouldn’t be able to sustain ourselves without the cost.

Players are therefore required to pay $25.00 each week of cricket they play (so for example, a two-day game is $50.00), which can be done either online, at the clubhouse before match day, or in cash given to the captain on match day.

You will then be ticked off and recorded as paid, so there is no need to worry about being put in the naughty list if you’ve paid!!

Payments must be completed no later than tea on any game day, as cash will need to be passed directly onto the umpire.

Online payments can be done via your phone or computer at any time prior to the commencement of a match (including the morning of game day).

Match fees are $25.00 each week you play – so a one-day game is $25.00 per match whilst a two-day game is $50.00 per match.

Q. What about social or non-playing memberships?

Yep, they are available too!

A social membership is purchasable by absolutely anyone, often by our members on top of their regular playing membership as it provides you with a great deal of benefits and savings.

We offer two types of social memberships – Gold and Silver – which you can buy online or at the clubhouse during the season.

Silver Social Membership is priced at $90.00, and entitles you to bar cards, stubby holders, all event invitations, social member only events, discounts from sponsors, free clubhouse hire, priority purchasing for windup tickets, and a whole lot more! Learn more or purchase here!

We also offer Gold Social Membership for $120.00, and that entitles you to all of that plus a Spartan formal shirt! Learn more or purchase here!

A non-playing membership differs altogether, as it is for those who want to be part of the Spartan Army (such as partners, past players, friends, supporters, sponsors etc.), who can’t take to the field every Saturday.

It is a great way to be part of the Club and enjoy the fantastic atmosphere and events on offer without having to play! For $110.00, you are an official Spartan member like the rest of us, but also receive some great goodies including a massive $40.00 bar card! Learn more or purchase here!

Playing Membership Gold Social Member Silver Social Member Non-Playing Member
$50.00 $120.00 $90.00 $110.00

Q. What about clothing fees?

I know, I know, more fees!

For the sake of professionalism and always knowing what to wear, we require all Club members to purchase a playing shirt, training shirt, and training shorts.

Collectively, these come to $121.00, and are a one-off purchase, meaning you only need to buy more when you require them.

Game pants can be any white ones you wish to purchase, and as we don’t sell a Spartan variant, we recommend the Cricket and Football Shop.

Another highly recommended (although not compulsory) clothing item is our formal Spartan shirt, which is to be worn at events, post-game and so on.

That one is $32.00, and is the only acceptable piece of Spartan clothing to be worn at our season windup. Of course, dress shirt is also acceptable at this event.

Q. Ok, now for the big one – what are the drink prices?

We’re glad you asked!

We have the cheapest drinks in the association, with the always popular red cans (Exports) at just $3.00, and all other beers (in bottle) at $4.00, including Corona, Crown, Carlton Dry, Great Northern, Hahn, and more!

Our spirits are only $6.00, including Jack Daniels and Jim Beam!

Membership FAQs:

Q. How do I become a member of the Spartans?

That’s easy! Simply get in contact with us via our phone (0478 982 043 or 0438 005 493) or complete the sign up form on our Sign Up page! We’ll get back to you within 24 hours.

We’ll need a few bits of information from you and then it is easy as that!

If you’ve played cricket previously, we may need to transfer you from your old club (even if it has been up to 5 years since you last played there), and it may take a few days, but other than that, you’re in!

Q. How much is a Spartan membership?

A normal playing membership is $50.00 AUD, (recently reduced from $450!), and will cover you for all the essentials.

With the purchase of your membership, not only do you get to become an official Spartan, but you’ll also receive free hire of our clubhouse for your own personal functions (we have to run the bar due to liquor licensing regulations) all year round!

In addition, you are covered by the Club’s insurance policy meaning if (and we hope it never happens) you get injured, you’ll be covered. Even if you don’t have personal health insurance.

Similarly, you get access to our monthly Player Tea’s (free dinners at the Club), access to the Spartan bar (the cheapest drinks in town), and invitations to any and all functions – with reserved and priority access to our Windup, which sells out at record speed!

Q. Do you offer non-playing membership?

Excellent question, and the answer is a resounding YES!

Introduced in 2016, Spartan Social Membership gives you all the benefits of a normal member (minus the actual playing part of course), and a whole lot more.

From just $90.00, a Silver Social Member receives bar cards, stubby holders, invitations, social member only events, discounts from sponsors, and a whole lot more!

We also offer Gold Social Membership for $120.00, and that entitles you to all of that plus a Spartan formal shirt!

You can learn all about out Social Membership here.

Q. What days do you train?

We train Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 5PM at our clubhouse on John Connell Reserve.

Following that, our Spartan Bar will be open and we also provide fantastic dinner meals, as well as a monthly player’s tea on the house!

All members must wear their official Spartan light-blue Training Shirt. New members of course are exempted, but we do encourage you to wear a light blue or white shirt (the contrast with the red cricket ball and dark shirt makes it hard to see in the evenings).

Sponsorship FAQs:

Q. Do you offer sponsorship opportunities?

Absolutely! We offer an enormous variety of sponsorship tiers, all available to view via our Sponsorship Package.

We pride ourselves on our commitment to our sponsors, which simply put is the best in the association, because we know personally just how important it is to make it a mutually beneficial partnership!

Q. Do you receive sponsorship through goods?

We certainly do! Whilst sponsorship that is of a monetary contribution is one we naturally pursue with greater emphasis, we absolutely would love to partner with you in the form of donations of goods or services!
