Congratulations to Mick Bennett on taking his 600th wicket for the Club on Saturday January 14th!

Against Armadale at Gwynne Park, Benno dismissed Stephen Jones to reach the milestone, thanks to what was – by all accounts – an outstanding catch by youngster Mitch McGrath.

As previously mentioned, Benno becomes just the fourth person to reach the astonishing 600 wickets mark, and the first in five decades.

He joins George Pluske (601 wickets since his debut in 1956), Ron Stanton (617 wickets since his debut in 1957), and most recently Bevan James (635 wickets after debuting in 1960).

The match itself unfortunately did not go the way of the Spartans, with Armadale racking up 6/306 from their forty overs (including a massive 186 run stand).

Still, the evergreen Benno was fantastic in taking 1/42 from his eight overs to be the most economical of the Spartans.

Bennett has taken 39 five wicket hauls for the Leeming Spartan Cricket Club, a Club record, and if he continues the standard he has set this season (he is second on our list of wicket takers), he may even reach the record of 635 wickets set by Bevan James.
